Description

Jeffery Magner was born March 10,1950 in Flint Michigan to William Magner and Norma Anderson. He attended grade school in Flint until moving to Rapid City with his parents in 1960. He graduated from Rapid City High School and continued his education in commercial art. For the past year he had made his home in Los Angeles California, and had returned to Rapid City two days before the flood.

His sister in her book Come Into the Water, says he was a maverick a, musician, an artist, he could fire off detailed pencil sketches, or effortlessly paint first rate water colors.

He sang tenor in the High School choir and played the guitar in garage rock band, making music came easy to him. Some people descriped him as the most irreverent person they knew.

On the night of the flood he and his sister were smoking pot in the family room while their parents were at a cocktail party near by. when their father called to tell them to put the cars in the drive way which they did. They continued to have a good time, play music and the power went out and they realized there was high water near the house.

Merlyn and her brother Jeff attempted to get up on the roof of their house, Jeff got up Merlyn didn't. He was swept off the roof and she was swept out of the house. AT one point she saw her parents on the roof of the house near by and she could tell her mother saw her and probably her brother being swept away, probably just before she was also .

The Magner family lived in the Starner Tract near Dark Canyon.

Survivers include a brother William Magner II, a sister Merlyn and his grand mother Mrs NB Magner in MN
