My Dad was caught in the deep waters in his Volvo and would surely have perished had it not been for the bravery of a SD National Guard soldier that night. They were both in the middle of Rapid Creek by then Frontier Ford (now McKie). My father would fall due to the rushing powerful waters and the guardsman would save his life. Then the soldier would fall and almost get swept away and my dad would save the soldier's life. I have always kept the Guard in a special place in my heart from that night forward.
