I can remember going down to the 7-11 on Hwy 44 to buy some penny candy (now the Loaf 'N Jug) and I came out of the store and I saw army trucks going by on the highway! I remember looking down the highway (East) and I could see this long line of army trucks coming into town! As far as the eye could see! I was only 5 yrs old at the time! Turns out I was watching the South Dakota National Guard rolling into town just hours or days after the flood! To help with survivors & the clean-up of the affected area! I really didn't know what was happening at the time (because of my age)! But I found out years later in school just what I had witnessed! I lost my cousin Charles Young 2 yrs old! He lived on 11 St. in town!
