Born on October 1, 1922 to Francis and Edith Beatty in Piedmont, SD.
On August 21, 1944 she married Lloyd McKay in Washington DC. They had three children. They divorced in 1950.
On October 24, 1952, Nellie married Wilbur Bishop in Huron, SD. They had two children.
She worked as a secretary for several businesses in Rapid City. She perished with her husband, Wilbur, on their way to work as night cleaners at Meadowood Lanes when their car was hit by a wall of water.
She was survived by three sons, two daughters, her mother, one brother and three sisters. Buried in the Black Hills National Cemetery with her husband.
