Scott was in Baken Park the evening of the Flood. He lost two high school classmates and the Texaco station where he worked washed away. Scott was recruited to search for survivors.

Lucy L. Schweigman, 83. She lived with her husband at 220 West Blvd North where she perished with her husband. She was survived by two sons and four daughters. Buried in the Black Hills National Cemetery.

Jacob H. Schweigman, 82. He lived at 220 West Blvd North where he and his wife perished. He was survived by two sons and four daughters. Buried in the Black Hills National Cemetery.
Schuster, Edna (Alice) Murphy
Edna A. Schuster, 83. She lived at 1731 West Omaha Street where she perished. She was survived by one son. She was buried in the Mountain View Cemetery, Rapid City.
Schullian, Mable Alta (Hoesli)
Mable H. Schullian, 78. She was living with some friends in Box Elder, South Dakota, at the time of her death from the flood. She was buried in the Bear Butt Cemetery, Sturgis, South Dakota.
Savely, Maxine Young Stewart
Maxine Savely, 54. She lived (or was visiting her mother—who survived the flood) near Canyon Lake when she perished. She was survived by her mother, one son and two daughters. Buried in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Rapid City.

Sandra and her husband set up camp leaving his Indian motorcycle and gear below Victoria Lake the evening before the Flood. Four of their friends stayed at the campsite however and were forced to climb to the top of a hill, clinging to trees in order to save themselves. Sandra's husband found his motorcycle two weeks later wrapped around a tree five miles downriver from their campsite. Sandra also speaks about the Community Powwow recognizing the Flood of 1972.

Ralph was born Aug 27,1934 in Ashville OH to Arthur Sampsill and Clara Swank Sampsill his mother survives him in Ohio. Ralph went into the United States Army July 30,1954 and served in Korea, as a Sp 3 in the Military Police.
He married Marline Haveman in about 1960, they were parents of three children, Ralph Jr who survives and Bill and Michael who died with their parents in the flood.
Ralph was a pipefitter for NW Pipe Fitting.
Mr and Mrs Sampsill are in the 1968 City Directory living in the Jackson Park area where they died in their home.
Ralph was survived by a brother Bruce in Asheville Ohio. Also surviving is a son Ralph Sampsill Jr of Rapid City.

Michael J. Sampsill, 8. He was a student at the Meadowbrook Grade School. He perished with his father, mother and a brother. He was survived by one brother. Buried in the Black Hills National Cemetery.

Bill A. Sampsill, 11. He was a student at the Meadowbrook Grade School. He perished with his father, mother and a brother. He was survived by one brother. Buried in the Black Hills National Cemetery.
Sam Bice
Seventeen year old Sam Bice lived with his family--and delivered the newspaper--in the Braeburn addition in 1972. He talks about what happened the night of the flood, the heavy death toll among his neighbors, and the odds things he found in the days following catastrophe.
Sam Bice was born in Chamberlain, South Dakota and moved to Rapid City in 1960 where he has resided since. He joined the family business where he was a water well and foundation contractor until his retirement.

Cheryl Roth Runestad was born April 8,1950 to Bertram Roth and Louise Kunkel. She graduated from Mitchell SD High School in 1968 and on August 1970 she married Mark Runestad in Mitchell. The moved to Rapid City in 1971 and Cheryl worked as a teachers aid in the school system, they lived on West Rapid Street.
On the night of her death she and Mark had finished grocery shopping at a store on Omaha Street when their car was struck with such force by the water and debris that the couple was knocked out of the car. Mark made it to safety, Cheryl's body was found on July 28th.
She is survived by her husband in Rapid City; her parents in Mitchell SD, a brother Richard Roth in Rhinelander WS and a sister Sandra Norland of Sioux Falls.
